North Korea has discharged shells into questioned waters close to a South Korean warship, South Korean military authorities told media.

This happened close Yeonpyeong island, on the questioned western oceanic fringe, Yonhap news org said.

On Tuesday, South Korea discharged cautioning shots at three North Korean transports that crossed the oceanic fringe. The North had said it would strike back.

In 2010, North Korean shelling of Yeonpyeong executed four individuals.

The most recent episode happened after 18:00 neighborhood time (09:00gmt) on Thursday, reports refering to South Korean authorities said.

"The shells fell close to our boat which has been on general watch in our region, however it didn't result in any harm to our boat," a representative from South Korea's barrier service told the Agence-France Presse news organization.

As per nearby news reports, South Korean powers discharged a few shells into northern waters accordingly.

Nearby telecom company YTN reported that inhabitants on Yeonpyeong were being emptied to shell covers.

Pressures have been climbing again between the two neighbors as of late, with Pyongyang coordinating high pitched abuse at the pioneers in Seoul and Washington, says the BBC's Lucy Williamson in Seoul.

The North and South normally lead bores close to the western ocean fringe, which has long been a flashpoint between the two Koreas.

The UN drew the fringe after the Korean War, yet North Korea has never remembered it.

Since the war finished in a cease-fire instead of a peace settlement, the two sides remain actually at war.

In March, the two nations exchanged ordnance fire over the outskirt.

North Korea murdered two citizens and two marines in the 2010 shelling of Yeonpyeong island, which it said was because of South Korean military activities.

Prior that year, a South Korean warship sank close Baengnyeong island, leaving 46 individuals dead. Seoul says Pyongyang torpedoed the vessel, however North Korea denies any part in the occurrence.
